Undergraduate Research Opportunities
There are research opportunities available year round for motivated undergraduate students at UW Bothell and surrounding research locations (such as UW Seattle, UW Tacoma, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Friday Harbor Laboratories, and more).
The UW Bothell Office of Research hosts an Undergraduate Research and Creative Practice Fair once a year in October where UW Bothell faculty who are actively seeking undergraduate students to work with them have posters describing the research and creative project, the project goals, student responsibilities, student qualifications and project outcomes. After the Fair, the posters are displayed here (see below) for UW Bothell students to browse to find opportunities that best fit their interests.
The UW Seattle Undergraduate Research Program (URP) host a UW-wide database that includes several hundred (these are just some of the projects actively seeking students- not all) of these undergraduate research opportunities. Be sure to check the database periodically, as new opportunities are continually added.
Talk to an adviser for help identifying the best opportunity fit for you. Advisers are available to assist you with applying to opportunities and can also help you to identify research opportunities that are not on UW Bothell posters or in the UW-database.
Summer Research Opportunities
With a variety of different opportunities for travel and learning, participating in summer research is a great way to build skills and experience, learn about the research process, and earn some money. Many summer research opportunities often provide stipends, living expenses, and sometimes pay for travel expenses.
Summer Research is a great way to spend your summer, so get started today!
Where to Look
Start Looking (Fall): Deadlines for summer research opportunities start in January and February
Apply (Winter): Check when applications are due and apply as early as possible. If you need help with the application, you can make an appointment with the UW Bothell Student Success Center (UW1-360).
Announcements (Spring): Most programs will contact you in spring to line up your summer research. If you are not approved for the program you wanted, you still have time to find a local opportunity.

The goal of the program is to improve opportunities for minority and female students in these fields, but all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. There are many opportunities to work under the mentorship of program officials and researchers on focused research projects consistent with the mission of the Office of Fossil Energy."
